In the first period, Pittsburgh LW Ruslan Fedotenko steps out of the penalty box and roars in all alone on Miikka Kiprusoff, only to be stoned by the Calgary netminder.

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: • Penguins left wing Ruslan Fedotenko and right wing Petr Sykora had combined for two goals in 14 games prior to facing the Flames — both scored by Sykora, who missed three contests over that stretch. Interim coach Dan Bylsma said before the game yesterday those two players «need to get to their games more often.» «Each player has to know what their foundation is and has to bring it every night," Bylsma said. «When you talk about a Max Talbot or Jordan Staal of late, you know what their games are because they've played them well. We need that from everybody.» Left wing Matt Cooke replaced Fedotenko on a second line with Malkin and Sykora often last night.

Fedotenko seeking to solve scoring problems

• Ruslan Fedotenko has not scored a goal in 15 games, and interim coach Dan Bylsma said earlier this week that he «needs to get to (his) foundation more often.» Fedotenko said Friday he somewhat agreed with Bylsma's assessment. «It's been hard lately for me to get into my game, and my game is being physical, aggressive, hitting and taking the puck to the net. Because I'm not playing on the (penalty kill and power play), and it's just hard to get right into my game because of that," he said. «But I started to feel better (Wednesday against Calgary) on a line with (Tyler Kennedy) and (Jordan Staal). So, yeah, I'm not scoring, but I think it's coming for me. I really do.» Prior to Wednesday, Fedotenko had played exclusive with Evgeni Malkin and Petr Sykora.

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Malkin's goal came on a power play, as did Crosby's 30th at 9:35 of the second period, which staked the Penguins to a 4-1 lead. Only 13 seconds later, center Jordan Staal swiped a rebound past New Jersey goalie Martin Brodeur off a shot by Penguins left wing Ruslan Fedotenko.

Fedotenko says he's fit, ready to play

The Penguins will determine today whether Ruslan Fedotenko will be able to play tonight at Carolina, although the left winger sounded confident when asked about an apparent right shoulder problem after practice yesterday at Southpointe.
«I look great and I feel great," Fedotenko said, with a wide grin.
He skipped the optional skate Thursday to have the shoulder evaluated. Yesterday, instead of working with center Jordan Staal and right winger Tyler Kennedy —- his linemates recently —- Fedotenko was part of a four-man, fourth-line rotation;Pascal Dupuis practiced with Staal and Kennedy.
Interim coach Dan Bylsma said the medical evaluation of Fedotenko «came back in a positive way» and added that «just like everyone else, he's banged up and bruised, but he was healthy and ready to go [for practice].»
Fedotenko missed the third period of the 6-1 win Wednesday against New Jersey after absorbing a hit from the Devils' Bobby Holik.

Ruslan Fedotenko probable against Hurricanes

• Left wing Ruslan Fedotenko, who has a shoulder injury, is probable for tonight's game against the Carolina Hurricanes. He sat out the third period of Wednesday night's game against the New Jersey Devils but practiced Friday. Interim coach Dan Bylsma said he'll make a final decision today on whether or not Fedotenko will be in the lineup. «Just like everyone else, he is banged up and bruised, but he's healthy and ready to go, and that's the good part," Bylsma said.

Left wing Ruslan Fedotenko played last night after missing the third period Wednesday of the Penguins' home win over New Jersey because of sore right shoulder. He was injured by a hit from Devils winger Bobby Holik.
Fedotenko recorded a point in his third consecutive game with an assist on right wing Tyler Kennedy's first-period goal last night. Fedotenko was without a point in 12 of 15 games prior to moving to the Penguins' third line with Kennedy and center Jordan Staal on March 25.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Scuderi and Zigomanis give a pretty good bang for a fairly modest buck, while the futures of Sykora and Fedotenko could hinge on how flexile they are in negotiations. Sykora fills an important role as Evgeni Malkin's right winger, but might be looking for more seasons than the Penguins are willing to give, while Fedotenko can be an effective member of the supporting cast, but probably should not count on being offered $2.25 million again.

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: • Ruslan Fedotenko was credited with his 15th goal, though he scored it Saturday in the Penguins' loss at Carolina. The goal originally was awarded to Jordan Staal as his 22nd; Staal did receive an assist on the now-Fedotenko goal, so he maintains his 44 points. Staal pushed for the Penguins to challenge the original goal ruling, insisting after the game Saturday that it was scored by Fedotenko.

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: • Bylsma reunited LW Ruslan Fedotenko, C Evgeni Malkin and RW Petr Sykora on a scoring line. That trio, a second scoring line much of the season, had not played together since March 25 — a span of four games. Fedotenko (two goals, four assists) had outscored Makin and Sykora (combined one goal, one assist) over that stretch. Little more than a minute after the Lightning got back to full-strength, Ruslan Fedotenko put the Penguins in front to stay with his 16th goal of the season.
Fedotenko broke down the slot, took a feed from center Jordan Staal and tossed a backhander by Lightning goalie Karri Ramo at 5:00. Tyler Kennedy received the second assist.

Petr Sykora, who didn't have a goal in eight games, restored the Penguins' equilibrium at 11:43, when he put in a Fedotenko rebound for the 300th of his career. The Lightning protested that Fedotenko interfered with Ramo after his shot was stopped.
