Quad City Mallards: Patrick Levesque, Mike Zbriger and Chris Lipsett converted penalty shots as the host Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, Sunday rallied in the shootout to defeat the Port Huron Icehawks 3-2 after the Flock also came from behind twice in regulation on goals by Obi Aduba and Kyryll Katrych on the way to extending Quad City’s winning streak to five games and its regulation unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-0-1).

The Mallards battled back from a goal down to tie the game twice in the first 40 minutes of regulation. The Icehawks entered the second period on top 1-0 after Mikael Bedard buried Derek Patrosso’s centering pass just over two minutes into the game. The second period was just less than two and a half minutes old when Obi Aduba charged into the goalmouth to tie the score at one. Port Huron would move back in front at 8:54 of the second when Ian Turner’s drive from the left point broke in off Mallards goaltender Kyle Jones (23 saves). The Mallards bounced back to even the score at two on Kyryll Katrych’s blast from the left wing boards at the 14:52 mark.

Ontario Reign:
The Reign pulled Darling for the extra attacker in an attempt to tie the game as time ran out, but goaltender Andrew Pitton picked up a rebound in front of the net and found the stick of left wing Igor Gongalsky. Gongalsky took a shot that traveled the length of the ice and slid into the empty net to give the Thunder a 4-2 lead. The shorthanded goal cemented the win for Stockton, who claimed two standings points with a final score of Thunder 4, Reign 2.

Quad City Mallards: The Komets had earlier scored twice in 13 first period seconds to suddenly turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead. After Kyryll Katrych drove the puck into the gaping Komet net with Haun out of position at 2:45 of the first, the Komets bounced back with rapid fire goals from Konstantin Shafronov and Drouin. Shafronov equalized by burying Colin Chaulk’s goalmouth feed at 5:33 of the opening period. At 5:46 Drouin broke the tie by firing home Leo Thomas’s centering pass.

Alaska Aces: Igor Gongalsky scored twice, including the game-winner, as the Thunder overcame a goal and an assist by Nick Mazzolini (#42) and dealt Frank Doyle his first loss as an Ace, 4-3, in front of 6,508 at Stockton Arena.
The Aces came out smoking Saturday night, scoring just 12 seconds into the game on Alexandre Imbeault's 17th goal of the year. Imbeault has at least a point in seven straight games, with 14 points (7g-7a) over that span. The Thunder rallied with three unanswered goals, beginning with Matt O'Dette's power play tally at 7:09 of the first period. Gongalsky's first of two and Chris D'Alvise's second goal in as many nights came 57 seconds apart later in the frame, and Stockton enjoyed a 3-1 advantage at the break.
Mazzolini scored the only goal of the second period, his first in 13 games dating to December 27, to cut the gap to 3-2 heading to the final 20 minutes. Halfway through the final period, Alaska came in on a three-on-one, only to see Imbeault's bid for the equalizer ring off the crossbar. At the other end on the ensuing rush, former Ace Colin Hemingway set up Gongalsky for what turned out to be the game-winner.

Stockton Thunder: Two sets of fisticuffs embodied a physical and emotional period, when Matt McCue and Jordan Bendfeld traded punches and the Thunder's Igor Gongalsky leveled Naglich on a bout at center ice.

Pantagraph: Levesque started the Mallards’ scoring two minutes later before Katrych scored the go-ahead goal four minutes later. Levesque added his second goal, which proved to be the game-winner, with 7:04 left in the second period.

Toledo’s Aliu Fined, Suspended

The ECHL announced that Akim Aliu of the Toledo Walleye has been suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount for his actions in ECHL Playoff Game #A-1, Charlotte at Toledo, on April 6.

Aliu was assessed a game misconduct at 11:55 of the third period for abuse of officials, and is suspended and fined under Rule #29 – Supplementary Discipline.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association, player fines collected by the ECHL are given to the PHPA for its ECHL Player’s Hardship Fund.

Aliu will miss Toledo’s playoff game against Charlotte on April 7.
